How to: Recycling kitchen utensils

nava

Your favorite pan is old but you do not want to throw it? Now you can breathe new life into your old cookware by recycling them! If you are wondering "how do I recycle my cookware?" we have the solution for you!

More and more people try to protect the environment through recycling and are generally more aware of this important issue! But,  there are some common mistakes in the recycling process, which can create more problems than you think!

If your old pots and pans are dammaged you do not need to throw them away - there are many ways you can recycle or reuse them! Before you go to the recycling bins, take some time to find out what they are made of and especially the process of collecting them. Of course, blue recycling bins are not the right place to recycle your cookware. Then, which is the place and especially which is the right way?

The "musts" of recycling kitchen utensils

1. Separate the materials of each utensil and recycle them differently from each other.

2. Donate non-metallic cookware instead of recycling. Most recycling programs do not accept these items. Alternatively use them in crafts and works of art!

3. If there is a non-stick coating on casseroles, roasters and pans, place them in a separate place at the collection points!

4. Do not throw the utensils in the special bin in tied bags, throw them unpackaged.

5. We never throw away the kitchen utensils we want to recycle in the blue recycling bins.

6. Remove all parts made of different material, for example plastic handles or wooden parts, if possible! They are recycled in a different way!

7. With the help of a magnet you will see if the metal utensils are from iron! If the magnet sticks, the cookware is made of iron, if the magnet slips, your cookware is made of another type of metal, such as copper, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.

Look for the local recycling programs on the website of your Municipality and talk to the responsible from the Municipality about the acceptable materials. The same do not apply to all local authorities!
