Guide for non-stick cookware: 15 tips for their proper use and protection
Nowadays, non-stick cookware plays an important role in every kitchen, as it stands as a reliable helper during meal preparation. Easy, fast and healthy cooking, with minimal oil and less effort. Fry pans, casseroles, wok, baking trays and baking forms with a special non-stick coating is what every kitchen and every candidate chef needs!
Non-stick coatings are more than ever resistant to scratches; still, it is essential to know how to keep your cookware unchanged over time with proper care.
1) Let's start with the basics: Before using a non-stick pan for the first time, carefully read its user manual! You will be amazed at the details listed in these manuals, which most people throw away or store somewhere and never read.
2) Before the first use, wash the cookware with soapy warm water, then rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth or kitchen paper.
3) Coat the inside of the pan with oil or butter before each use. Wipe off excess oil well.
4) You must apply the "seasoning" procedure regularly (the above mentioned procedure) in order to maintain the performance of the non-stick coating.
5) Use wooden, plastic or silicone utensils, as metal ones can scratch the surface and damage the non-stick coating. Do not cut food in the pan with sharp tools.
6) Do not use metal sponges, wire or hard cleaners.
7) Do not leave on stove cookware whose contents have evaporated and do not leave empty cookware on a hot stove or gas flame.
8) Make sure your non-stick cookware has the right size to fit to the kitchen hob or gas flame so that the heat or flame does not touch its sides, but only the base of the cookware!
9) Although our cookware is made to withstand sudden temperature changes - for longer life - prefer to let the pan cool and then wash with soapy warm water.
10) Never pull wok or pans on the stove while cooking, always lift them.
11) The low or medium temperature is enough to achieve the best cooking results!
12) When storing non-stick cookware, avoid stacking them (one on top of the other) or squeezing them into cupboards or drawers. Ideally, hang them!
13) Avoid non-stick sprays, use vegetable oils, butter or margarine - in small amounts. The sprays are unhealthy as they stick to the cookware, preventing air circulation, and, thus, damaging the non-stick coating.
14) Do not store food in non-stick cookware!
15) How do you know it is time to replace a non-stick pan? If food sticks to the surface of the pan while you are cooking, your pan probably needs to be replaced.
Forget the hassle of food sticking to pans and invest in a non-stick cookware set.
